OUR CURRICULUM

1: INTRO TO ATHLETE INTERACTION & PROJECT OUTLINE

This week we teach our interns how to interact with the athletes (helping to write on their cards, changing out weights, asking questions, etc). We also discuss the end of internship project - Intern coaches will create a 4 week microcycle and use the information they learn during the internship to create it.

2: ASSESSMENT TOOLS

Main Movement: The Squat

This week we outline a few assessment tools (OnBaseU, FMS, in depth private sector, strength assessments, power assessments, etc), we explain how to properly select assessment tools & how to apply them in the team settings.

3: PERIODIZATION

Main Movement: The Hinge

This week we discuss periodization as per the CSCS methodology. Most of our intern coaches are pursuing CSCS, and we use this week to make sure they understand the periodization they will be tested on. We also touch on how our coaches periodize individually (VBT, etc).

4: INTRO TO CONDITIONING

Main Movement: The Row

This week we show how we periodize conditioning for our teams, how we outline progressions, different sports specific conditioning drills, plyometrics, etc.

5: STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING TECHNOLOGIES

Main Movement: Off

Although we are limited in the tech we have, our coaches have experience with many technologies. This week we teach intern coaches on tech they will encounter in their careers like Nordbord, VBTs, GPS systems, programming software, etc. We familiarize them with these pieces of tech so at the very minimum they understand what these are used for and how they may assist them when they are available.

6: EXERCISE SELECTION

Main Movement: The Push

This week we help intern coaches understand the thought process behind proper exercise selections, then have them interpret some of our current programs explaining why certain exercises may be more relevant than others to the respective sport.

7: COMMON ATHLETIC INJURIES AND RTP

Main Movement: Deadlift Variations

This week we discuss some common qualms we see in our athletes and how to help our athletic trainers in their RTP protocols. We usually discuss low back, biceps strains, knee injuries & COVID RTP along with how to adjust things on the fly.

8: RECOVERY INTERVENTIONS

This week we teach the basics of recovery (nutrition, sleep, hydration, mobility) & how they may go about implementing these recovery interventions on the team & individual athlete levels. For the coaching session this week they will be asked to coach us through the movements we have discussed thus far.

9: EXPLORING DIFFERENT JOB OPTIONS

This week we will discuss the jobs available in the S&C realm. We discuss positions like coordinator, assistant, rehab S&C, graduate assistantships, etc. We also discuss topics like work life balance, different populations & how to build a resume.
