OUR CURRICULUM

 

1: SPOTTING / WEIGHT ROOM SAFETY

Interns will learn how to spot most commonly used lifts. They will also learn common safety procedures specific to the weight room as well as how to set up common equipment.

2: WARM UP / NEEDS ANALYSIS

Interns will learn how to make and coach a warm up. Interns will also learn how to create a needs analysis for a specific sport.

3: MOVEMENT 101

Intern coaches will learn how to coach squats, hinge, push, and pulling movements. This will include common cues, progressions and regressions.

 

4: MOVEMENT 201

Intern coaches will learn how to coach Olympic lifts (snatch, clean & jerk). This will be taught using USAW's approach.

5: PERIODIZATION

Interns will learn about how periodization and commonly used strategies from NSCA's Essentials of Strength & Conditioning book.

6: PROGRAM DESIGN 101

Interns will lean how to program workouts. This will include exercise selection, exercise order, structure, supersets, and training modalities.

 

7: PROGRAM PRESENTATION

Interns will get the opportunity to write a program for an assigned sport and present it to staff. They will be given feedback by staff on their presentation.

8: LINEAR SPEED

Interns will learn how to coach linear speed drills and sprints. This will cover most effective ways to develop speed as well as how to cue positions and angles of linear speed.

9: MOCK INTERVIEW

Interns will get the opportunity to do a mock interview with the staff. Interns will get a 30-minute window to sit down with the staff and answer common strength and conditioning interview questions.
