OUR CURRICULUM

 

1: WHO WE ARE

Coach John Spurlock presents the Core Values of the Kentucky Athletic Department and why Kentucky Strength & Conditioning is so special. He also explains, in-depth, our training philosophy and decision-making hierarchy.

2: COMMON BARBELL LIFTS AND COACHING CUES

Coach DeVriendt and the rest of the staff cover common movements in the weight room such as the Back Squat / Bench Press / Clean/ Snatch / Push Press / Jerk and cues we use to coach them.

3: LIFTING ORIENTATION

Olympic Strength Staff will take new interns through our New Student Athlete orientation process. Sections include: Weight room Warm Up / Shoulder Prehab / Core / Squat Progression / Overhead Progression / Clean and Snatch Progression / Combo movements / Missing a lift Correctly / Plyo Progression / Change of Direction Progression / Stride Length + Frequency / Deceleration

 

4: LEADERSHIP TALKS / INTERN TALK TOPICS

Opportunities for interns to speak to the group and present to the staff their knowledge along with group discussions on leadership topics from Discovering your True North, and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

5: ON THE FLOOR COACHING

Interns are provided with the opportunity to coach and work with our teams on campus training during the summer. Teams include: Volleyball / Gymnastics / Softball /Baseball / Soccer / Swim + Dive / Track. Interns are also taken through live coaching drills in our Coach-Teach sessions in controlled settings to provide feedback to them directly.

6: PRE/POST EVALUATIONS

Interns are evaluated by staff after orientation week, and at the conclusion of summer to be potentially offered the opportunity to stay on staff for the following academic year in a paid position.
