OUR CURRICULUM

 

1: BUILDING AND DESIGNING A PROGRAM, HUSKER POWER PRINCIPLES, NEEDS ASSESSMENT

  • Interns will begin by creating a strength and conditioning program for an assigned sport.

  • Learn the history of Husker Power and the 10 Principles.

  • Learn how to perform a needs assessment, both for a team and individually.

2: WARM UPS AND COOL DOWNS

Learn how to design and implement effective warm-ups and cool-downs.

3: PERIODIZATION: BASE, DEVELOPMENT AND PEAK

  • Learn the different types of periodization

  • Understand how to periodize a program and how each program should build on the previous one(s)

 

4: SPEED AND POWER

  • Learn where, how and why to program speed and power exercises

  • Participate in a speed training session

5: EXPLOSIVE AND OLYMPIC LIFTING

  • Learn where, how and why to program Olympic lifts

  • Participate in an Olympic weightlifting education session

6: CHANGE OF DIRECTION AND CONDITIONING

  • Learn where, how and why to program COD and conditioning

  • Participate in a COD training session

 

7: STRENGTH AND STRENGTH COACH CONNECTIONS

  • Learn where, how and why to program strengthening exercises

  • Connect with 1 strength coach not at the University of Nebraska

8: PROGRAM PRESENTATION

  • Design a comprehensive 16-week strength and conditioning program for an assigned sport

  • Give a 15 minute presentation to Nebraska strength coaches and fellow interns

  • Be prepared to answer questions about your program
