OUR CURRICULUM

1: THE UCLA TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

We teach our interns the what, how, and why behind everything we do with our athletes. This allows our interns to have a full understanding of the programs we are delivering to the athletes and makes them an effective coach on the floor.

2: PROGRAM DESIGN

Building a performance training program from start to finish, that includes a needs analysis, annual plan, micro cycle for a specific sport. Our interns present this program to us in a formal setting followed by questions from the staff that they defend. This project is scored and feedback is given on each part and the overall presentation and defense as a whole.

3: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

We review resumes, cover letters, interview and presentation skills. The program presentation also falls under this section of the internship.

4: EVALUATIONS

We evaluate our interns 3 times during the course of the internship. Each evaluation consists of 4 parts. The full time coaches evaluation, where we give the interns our feedback. The self evaluation, where the intern reviews themselves. The peer evaluation, where they get feedback from their fellow interns on the daily tasks the interns are responsible for. The athlete evaluation where we get feedback from a selection of the athletes that they work with on a daily basis.

5: TRAINING METHODOLOGIES

We cover the different methods of athletic development, consisting of, speed development, change of direction, agility, strength, power, energy system development, mobility, shoulder care, recovery, and performance preparation.
