OUR CURRICULUM
1: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Interns will prepare for their professional careers through resume workshop, mock interviews, professional portfolios, annual plans and presentation skills while developing organizational and leadership skills. Our goal is to prepare interns for their next professional opportunity in the field.
2: ON-FLOOR COACHING AND TRAINING EXPERIENCE
Interns will earn the opportunity to work hands on with Division 1 athletes on a daily basis. This includes, but is not limited to, full team training sessions, return to play rehab and individual training. Through this they will develop their coaching eye, a better understanding of how to lead teams in the weight room or on the field and begin to understand how to cue exercises and interact with athletes in a training environment.
3: CSCS EXAM PREPARATION
In order to best prepare interns to take the next step professionally, they will be assigned a variety of projects, presentations and topics to study based on required information included in the NSCA textbook "The Essentials of Strength & Conditioning-Fourth Edition." All interns are encouraged to purchase and bring this book and other study materials with them, although many recourses will be provided.
4: CONTINUED EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT
Outside of just reading a textbook, interns will learn how to continue their development through different educational resources. We will utilize research article annotation, online/in person lectures, as well as weekly chalk talks with the staff. Interns will be required to complete individual or group projects & tasks based on different topics.
5: PROGRAMMING
Interns will learn more about the intricacies of creating a safe, efficient and effective program that is scientifically supported to provide the most positive results for athletes. Through this development, they will also gain insight to several different types of program philosophies, methodologies and specific types of training. We will put together mock team programs, individual training programs and annual plans. This is not just limited to the weight room but will also include energy system development, speed/agility, and change of direction work and all other aspects of programming.
6: CORE LIFT MOVEMENT TRAINING
Interns will learn to teach, coach and even execute main movement exercises, accessory movements, and Olympic variations/movements that are commonly utilized within the strength & conditioning field. They will learn the proper setup, technique and how to coach and cue an athlete through all of it.
